LEEDs Certification is similar to being a Realtor

When I first became an architect there was no such thing as leeds certification. Today, however, more and more clients seem to be coming into the shop asking about it. Mind you, I have nothing against being energy efficient, and designing green buildings. The challenge is that now we have to go out and get some new certifications.

Spending that time, of course, takes time away from the paying projects. And that means that the entire business suffers. This may just be one of those bullets we have to bite in order to compete over the long run. As word of LEED certified buildings is spread amongst the general population, it becomes one of those standards that are simply looked upon as being required to do business.

Take for instance, a Realtor. These are just licensed real estate agents that have passed examinations and can call themselves licensed Realtors. The same goes with LEED training. Fortunately for us, there is a nearby Everblue Training Institute where we are going to be able to attend a number of courses that will prepare us for the various examinations. The success rate of first time test takers at this school makes me have the good feeling we'll not have as much down time as I might have been concerned with originally.
